Storyline
Pony Express Buffalo Bill and Wild Bill Hickok join forces to establish a mail route that can get mail from St. Joseph, Missouri, to Sacramento, California, in ten days. Along the way they must battle bad weather, hostile Indians and outlaws intent on robbing the mail and shutting down the entire operation.
Forget they are named Cody, Hickock, Jim Bridger and enjoy a good western.
Pony Express The story of the Pony Express is one of the most interesting and fascinating stories of the west. California at that time was totally isolated, and would get the news from the government many months later, thus many people would be for secession, because they did not believe they could be governed like that. There was no telegraph, so they decided to pick those skinny guys, the equivalent of today’s jockeys, and make them alternate, also switching horses, so in ten days the express mail would get from St Joseph, Missouri to Sacramento. Now you might ask what Buffalo Bill (Charlton Heston), Wild Bill Hicock (Forrest Tucker) and a sort of Calamity Jane named Denny (Jan Sterling) fit into this and the answer will be marketing. Famous western names would please the crowds. I would have wished for a more serious film, but I can’t deny the film is entertaining, fast paced, colorful and with a lot of action, The scenes where the pony express is shown are very good. I just was hoping for a more historical and serious film, but who knows, one day they will make it.

I’m suspicious to talk about Charlton Heston, due l’ve been consider him the best actor ever, Pony Express l did watch it on first time in 1980, has an wrong Hollywood’s dramatization for commercial purpose, joint Buffalo Bill and Wild Bill Hickok in this enterprise, although they never attended in those facts, the picture is inaccurate, forgetting this outrageous mistake the picture worth a look, telling one more chapter of the America’s history, Rhonda Fleming is in full shape, beauty than never, Forrest Tucker had a rare opportunity to play a good guy and Jan Sterling was at peak of her career, the simple presence of the Chuck, the picture get strong due his fabulous and resounding performance, an average production that deserves some recognition !!!
